She has served in the boards of e bay foundation, Procter and Gamble, Goldman sachs and Teach for America. She announced her candidacy for Governor of California in 2009 and lost to Jerry Brown. She joined the board of directors of Hewlett-Packard in January 2011 and was declared the CEO of the company in September 2011.

She started her career with General Motors in 1979. She joined IBM in 1981 as a systems engineer. She served as the senior vice president and group executive of sales, marketing and strategy in IBM. In January 2012, the company declared her appointment as CEO of the $192billion company. She has featured in the ’50 Most powerful Women in business’ list of Fortune magazine for 8 consecutive years with the top rank in 2012.
