10 Great Mentors of Great Entrepreneurs

Bill Gates and Paul Allen

Mentor: Ed Roberts ‘Inventor of first PC’

How they met: Robert’s hired them to work for him

Gates and Allen were inspired to develop Microsoft only after Robert’s personal computer was published in 1975. Robert’s can also be credited for the formation of this tech giant, as he stood as a great inspiration for the duo and it all happened when their first untested software worked on his Altair.

On the sad demise of Ed Robert’s Microsoft founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen published a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and early mentor, Ed Roberts, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family...Ed was willing to take a chance on us – two young guys interested in computers long before they were commonplace – and we have always been grateful to him.”

Warren Buffet has also mentored Bill Gates.
