Barcelona’s supercomputing center has its home in the Technical University of Catalonia –where once Torre Girona Chapel was located. Taking its place in a glass room, the super computer sits in a chapel, which was built in the 1920.

The data center seemed hungry for a place and that is why the chapel was chosen. What makes it though provoking is its location within the religious setting with subdued lighting.

#1 SuperNAP, Las Vegas, Nevada

SuperNAP is claimed to be the tenth largest data center in the world, with nearly 10 acres of floor space. The facility is located in the dessert surrounded Las Vegas. It has extensive cooling facilities lined out outside the building to get away with the heat generated by the 1500 Watts/ square foot of server power usage the center supports.

If the power grid fails, there is a backup of 50 generators capable of 100 million Watts of power. A 10 foot tall blast wall protects the building. The building also features white noise injectors, steel-lined walls and radio frequency shielding to protect servers from spies.
