10 Awesome Data Centers Across the Globe

#4 Verne Global data center, Reykijavik, Iceland

If you thought that data centers were not greener, check this one out. The Verne Global data center situated at the former NATO airbase outside Iceland’s capital runs on renewable resources  - geothermal and hydroelectric. That is why it burns no fossil fuels. Heat dissipation is also done without using power. There is ample cold air in the 45 acre facility.

#3 Green data Center, Syracuse University, New York

This data center is built in cooperation with IBM and New York State. Situated at Syracuse University, the data center generates electricity it needs using a series of 12 natural gas-powered turbines. Water is heated through the hot exhaust turbines. These turbines are also used in absorption chillers in which heat drives a refrigeration system.

That system then cools the water that is used to carry heat away from the data center server area. There is a battery backup as well which keeps the center running at full power for at least 17 minutes which is enough for an orderly shutdown of serves, if needed.
