The Indian Institutes of Management

IIM, IIM B, IIM C, IIM K, IIM AIndian Institutes of Management (IIMs) constitute a set of 13 institutes across: Calcutta, Ahmadebad, Bangalore, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore, Shillong, Rohtak, Ranchi, Raipur, Tiruchirappali, Udaipur, and Kashipur. The first IIM was set up in Calcutta in 1961, while 2011 saw six new additions to the premier institute group. The admission process involves a Common Admission Test (CAT), followed by a group discussion, and a personal interview. The IIMs offer a rigorous academic profile and extracurricular activities to encourage overall development of the students. They conduct regular workshops, seminars, events which include notable personalities from various verticals to give an overview of the industry to the students. IIM Calcutta has an entrepreneurship cell which supports and encourages entrepreneurship. In 2011, more than 10 percent of the IIM-A graduates have become entrepreneurs.

The notable IIM alumni include N.R. Narayana Murthy, Co-Founder of Infosys; Rajendra S.Pawar, Co-Founder of NIIT; Vinod Khosla, Co-Founder of Sun Microsystems; Ajit Balakrishnan, Founder of Rediff.com, R Ramraj, Founder of Sify; and many others.
