As revealed by The Wall Street Journal Michael T Ford, assistant professor of industrial and organizational psychology, University of Albany, New York states that if you are paid the same as a co-worker who you believe is not as productive as you, you are likely to feel stressed. Employees also tend to get upset when they feel the decision making is poor; for example, when one person secretly decides promotions, bonuses or layoffs, without systematic review by others.

Moreover, it is also said that the employee's assumption of fairness are not always correct. Some employees may misconceive how things work at their workplace or communicate poorly with their higher-ups; whereas others may have fake opinions about their own worthiness for pay raises and promotions.
