Indian-founded Startup Lets Coders Build, Test in Browsers

The site, according to TechCrunch, allows you to see code in a pane on the left and shows you its result on the right. This way, you can immediately see how your changes affect results. The site also allows you to run the code on a virtual machine or to share it with others; but a bonus feature is that it acts as a storehouse for various API.

Kumar said he came up with the idea of method of focusing on code development when he was working at Amazon. “A Product Manager came up to me complaining it took her 2 days to get a make a basic API call to Facebook. She had taken a programming class in college, but struggled with getting a basic app up and running,” he said.

Kumar’s experience at Amazon helped him build a system of virtual machines using Amazon Web Services that help run, or use a sandbox for the code so whatever code you can test apps without creating an official account. “CodeNow runs completely in the browser. There is nothing to set up. No software package, no Amazon EC2 server instance. Just type and hit run,” he said.

CodeNow.com currently has APIs of services like Dropbox, and Facebook, but has a number of other partners (providers of APIs) on its wait-list. It plans to earn by charging providers for taking part, allows coders to learn syntax and even provides sample code to ease them into learning. “There are tens of millions of code literate users that struggle to overcome the basic barriers of setting up code and project environments,” says Kumar. “We plan to empower millions of such users to create, build and play with code.”
