How important is a Project Manager in India?

In a recent conference conducted under the theme “Getting India ready in a Project Driven Economy -Role of Academia” by the Project Management Institute [PMI], Dr. Kamal Sharma, Managing Director of Lupin, stressed on the importance of project management at the current scenario for a growing economy like India. He told that India has a long way to go in terms of development to meet its growth objectives. He expressed his concern on the shortage of qualified project managers in India. He feels that there should be a focused to internationalize the system of learning, and humanize the curriculum to impart all- round soft skills to the professional.

K.B. Dixit, Executive Director (Engineering & Procurement), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) shared his opinion at the same press conference that project management was an effective tool to manage and develop any kind of infrastructure that is needed to meet the growing needs to our economy across different sectors like Power, Roads, Ports, IT among others, and thus there was a need to give it more importance in the academic curriculum.
