2) Thyagaraja Music Festival

Thyagaraja Music Festival is held in the cherished memory of Sri Thyagaraja, a great musician and a saint. This Carnatic music festival is conducted every year in January in Thiruvaiyaru, Tamil Nadu. Sometimes it is held during February also. This festival is held at Thiruvaiyaru as this is where he spent his life and took his Samadhi. This festival lasts for 8 days on the banks of KAveri river, near his Samadhi. The main attraction of this is recital of Pancharatna Kritis for 5 days by renowned musicians. Pancharatna Kritis comprise the 5 most famous of Sri Thyagaraja’s compositions. These compositions are also called 5 gems. These gems are as follows - Endaro Mahanubhavulu - Raga Sri, Kanakana Ruchira - Raga Varali, Sadhinchene - Raga Arabhi, Dudukugala - Raga Gaula and Jagadananda Karaka - Raga Naata.
