Mohini Bhardwaj
Mohini Bhardwaj is the first Indian-American gymnast to win the Olympic medal (silver medal at the 2004 summer Olympics).She was who was voted as the ‘India Abroad Person’ in the year 2004 for her Olympic achievements.
Mohini who started going for gymnastic classes when she was just four has been honoured with many prestigious rewards such as AAI American Award and Honda Award. Apart from this, she also earned the All-American honors eleven times and 23 individual titles.
Before entering the Olympics, she had to retire from competitive gymnastics In the year 2002 following an elbow injury and financial problems. But she could not stay away for long as her dream of winning the Olympic medal was very strong and sincere. She made money for her training by working at several jobs such as waitressing and delivering pizzas, which reflected her true spirit and determination.
Currently, Mohini works as a coach at Cascade All Star Gymnastics in Bend, Oregon.
