8 Unsung Female Explorers

Helen Thayer:

At the age of 50 and having only her dog for help, Helen Thayer was the first female to complete a solo expedition to the North Pole. She has lived with a wolf pack in Arctic Circle for one year and also has a record of trekking 2,575 kilometers in Gobi Desert. She was honored as the most important explorers of the 20th century by National Geographic Society in 2009.

Alison Hargreaves:

Alison Hargreaves broke two impossible hurdles in May 1995 by climbing Mount Everest without any Oxygen and Sherpa support. This strong lady also did some eyes-popping stuff when she climbed other mountains when she was pregnant; this also made her face lots of criticism as a mother should not put herself in hazardous situation. Alinson died in a brutal storm when she was trying to climb one of the most dangerous peak- the K2.
