2.Submerged Relics at Yonaguni-Jima The diver Kihachiro Aratake came across a mysterious structure while diving off the coast of Yonaguni-Jima Island, 67 miles from Taiwan. He swam closer to further investigate what appeared to be a huge stone structure on ocean floor. The structure was 240 long and 90 feet wide, with patterns of monolithic blocks, black and gaunt. He took photographs of the structure and returned to the shore.

The news spread far and wide with every major newspapers of Japan covering Aratake's discovery. Many marine archeologists soon visited the site. Controversy grew over the origin of the structure? Was it man made or naturally built? The discovery soon led divers like Professor Masakki Kimura to extensively explore the area. He found a 5000 years old underwater city. Ruins of an ancient castle, a triumphal arch, five temples, a large stadium, connected roads and water channels, surrounded by huge retaining walls made up this marine city.
