5 Google Products To Breathe Their Last

iGoogle

iGoogle, the search giant’s personalized home page Web portal, might be the most notable removal in the list.

Launched in May 2005, a time when none could imagine of setting up personalized Web and mobile apps and of getting real-time information at the soft touch of your fingertips, iGoogle (though wasn’t officially named until 2007) provided home page portals which were people’s entry points to the Internet.

In the year 2007, the service became available in a number of localized versions in 42 languages, and more than 70 country domain-names. As the statistics says, around 7.1 million people were using the service in the same year and it got increased every year, till the boost got slowed down as similar services started sharing the spot light.

It is at this pace that the company proposed a rethinking.

The company said that with modern apps that run on platform like Chrome and Android, the need for iGoogle has dimished. Google winds up the service on November 1, 2013.
