Traditional Style Meets Contemporary Home Decor

1) Central courtyard or Nadumuttom:

In Kerala architecture, central courtyard has always been a part of it and the architectural style is known as Nallukettu Style. The central courtyard or Nadamuttom type construction has got several advantages.  It allows good amount of natural lighting and fresh air inside the house and thereby connects the house with the outside atmosphere. This type of architecture minimizes the heat inside the house and also persuades the connectivity between the inhabitants. Another benefit of these courtyards is that the place can be used as a play area for children. However, this architectural style in modern homes has undergone a slight change due to security concern and so these courtyards are now covered with steel railings or thick glasses.
