Amitabh Bachchan Expands Mumbai Real Estate Holdings with New Office Acquisitions

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has expanded his real estate portfolio with the acquisition of three additional office properties spanning three floors in Oshiwara, Mumbai's bustling western suburb of Andheri, for a staggering sum of nearly Rs 60 crore. This move comes on the heels of his existing ownership of four offices covering over 12,000 sq ft built-up area and 10,800 sq ft carpet area within the same commercial tower. These offices, occupying an entire floor each, were previously reported to have been leased to Warner Music India under a long-term agreement spanning five years.
The newly acquired office space, which spans a generous 8,429 sq ft carpet area, is located on the 27th, 28th, and 29th floors of a ready-to-move commercial tower. In addition to the premium office space, Bachchan secured exclusive access to three coveted car parking slots within the building. The transaction, completed on June 20, involved a substantial stamp duty payment exceeding Rs 3.57 crore, as per documents sourced from FloorTap.com, a marketplace for commercial properties.
Beyond his commercial real estate ventures, Amitabh Bachchan has been actively expanding his residential property holdings. Recently, he purchased a plot from the House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) in Alibaug, a scenic beach town near Mumbai known for its luxurious sea view properties. This acquisition is aimed at constructing a luxury villa, adding to Bachchan's prestigious real estate portfolio. In January, he also acquired another land parcel near the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, within a prominent 7-star mixed-use development.
The Bachchan family's presence in Mumbai's real estate landscape is notable, with their ownership of several properties including their iconic bungalow, Prateeksha, located in the upscale Juhu area. Recently, the transfer of ownership for Prateeksha was formalized through two separate gift deeds, each corresponding to distinct plots on which the bungalow stands.
In a related move, Amitabh's son, Abhishek Bachchan, has also made significant real estate investments. He recently purchased six apartments in a premium residential project situated in Mumbai's Borivali suburb, totaling Rs 15.42 crores. Notably, two of these apartments are modestly sized at 252 sq ft each, while the remaining four offer a more spacious 1,100 sq ft carpet area per unit.
Despite repeated attempts to seek comment from Bachchan's team via email, there has been no response as of the time of publication.
High-net-worth individuals, particularly from the entertainment industry, continue to view real estate as a prime avenue for investment. This trend is evident not only among Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan but also in the recent property acquisitions by other prominent actors and personalities. Kartik Aryan, Sara Ali Khan along with her mother Amrita Singh, as well as Ajay Devgan and Kajol, have also made significant investments in the same commercial tower in Oshiwara.
Moreover, Bollywood stalwarts including Shahrukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have long been associated with high-profile real estate investments. Recent transactions have also seen the acquisition of luxury properties by Ranveer Singh, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee, Alia Bhatt, Disha Patani, and Janhvi Kapoor, further underscoring the allure of real estate as a wealth-building asset class in the entertainment industry.
The continual surge in real estate acquisitions among Bollywood celebrities not only reflects their financial prowess but also highlights their enduring faith in the property market's potential for substantial returns and long-term value appreciation.
