Venture Highway teams up with General Catalyst to boost up Indian startups
New Delhi-based Venture Highway has declared its consolidation with Silicon Valley's funding firm (VC) General catalysts. The merger aims to invest $500 million to $1 billion in India to increase General Catalyst's presence there.
The improvement will see Venture Highway rebranded as Venture Catalyst India, with its tasks and speculations going on under the new name. Neeraj Arora, Venture Highway’s pioneer and previous WhatsApp CBO, and Priya Mohan, its General partner, will lead the endeavors in India.
Established in 2014, Venture Highway has been a key beginning phase financial backer in a few fruitful Indian new businesses, including the social trade stage Meesho and the B2B commercial center Moglix. All of Venture Highway's portfolio companies will continue to be managed in the same manner as before, albeit under the General Catalyst brand. This is despite the merger.
The consolidated enterprise will see Venture Highway's current portfolio for potential follow-on ventures. The majority of the money from Venture Highway's third fund has already been used, and General Catalyst will be used to make additional investments.
Over the next three years, General Catalyst, which oversees assets worth over $25 billion worldwide, intends to invest $500 million to $1 billion in Indian startups. The plan covers investments in both the early and growth stages in a variety of industries.
Expressing to this new endeavor, Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, “Combining our US seed team with Venture Highway in India and La Famiglia in Europe, we are committing deeply to becoming great at supporting the world's best startups at the earliest stages…The combined capabilities of the two firms will allow us to be much more hands-on and effective going forward in India. I am especially excited about bringing our co-creation capabilities to India”
Likewise, General Catalyst stated in a blog post, “We are excited to announce that Venture Highway (VH) is merging with General Catalyst (GC) to lead GC’s initiatives in India and to seek to create one of the most powerful venture platforms to support the next generation of entrepreneurs in India”.
