Game Theory has acquired Matchday.ai in order to advance its AI capabilities
Game Theory, an innovative sports gaming startup backed by Nithin Kamath, has recently acquired Matchday.ai, a sports analytics startup, in a strategic move that is effective from October. This acquisition will further strengthen Game Theory's expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision. It is a significant step for Game Theory as it will improve its technology stack, accelerate its market time, and bring key talent on board.
Game Theory has recently raised $2 million in a pre-Series A funding round. Nithin Kamath's Rainmatter led the investment. The startup was established in 2018 with a goal to provide users with competitive and immersive real sports experiences in the form of video games. The integration of Matchday.ai's technology will play an important role in refining Game Theory's matchmaking algorithms and improving user experiences.
Sudeep Kulkarni, the Founder of Game Theory, expressed his excitement about the acquisition. He stated that Matchday has developed incredible computer vision technology that the world's top athletes have used to improve their game. Game Theory aims to bring this technology to everyday players with this acquisition. They can now identify minor improvements for casual real sports players and function as a tech-first scout for building India's future athletes. Rakesh Bordia, a partner at Prequate Advisory, which led the M&A, emphasized the significance of this acquisition in harnessing technology for real sports, an opportunity that remains mostly untapped.
