PM Modi Visits J&K for International Yoga Day, Launches Key Development Projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir today, marking his first trip to the region since securing his third term in office. During his visit, he will participate in International Yoga Day celebrations and unveil several developmental projects aimed at enhancing the region's infrastructure and economy.
On Thursday, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate 84 major developmental projects valued at over Rs 1,500 crore at the 'Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K' event. This event, starting at 6 pm, will see the commencement of projects related to road infrastructure, water supply, and higher education. Notable initiatives include improvements to the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri Section, development of Industrial Estates, and construction of six government degree colleges.
In addition to these, the Prime Minister will launch the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture & Allied Sectors (JKCIP) Project worth 1,800 crore, designed to boost the region's agricultural productivity. He will also distribute appointment letters to over 2,000 individuals newly appointed to government service, emphasizing the administration's focus on employment generation and economic revitalization.
On Friday, June 21, Modi will lead the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations at SKICC, Srinagar. The theme for this year's celebration, 'Yoga for Self and Society', highlights Yoga’s role in promoting both individual well-being and societal harmony. The Prime Minister’s Office noted that the event aims to bring together thousands of participants to practice Yoga, reinforcing its health benefits and fostering a sense of global wellness.
The celebration in Srinagar underscores Yoga’s profound impact on young minds and bodies, aligning with the global movement to promote its benefits. PM Modi has consistently championed International Yoga Day, having led celebrations in various locations including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and at the United Nations Headquarters in New York since its inception in 2015.
Combining infrastructural development with cultural promotion, PM Modi’s visit highlights a comprehensive approach to regional progress. By launching essential projects and advocating for International Yoga Day, the Prime Minister aims to enhance both the physical infrastructure and cultural vibrancy of Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for a more integrated and prosperous future for the region.
