IIT Mandi Launches Innovative Music and Musopathy Programs in Hybrid Formats
IIT Mandi is set to introduce Masters of Science and PhD programmes in music and musopathy through its Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Application. These programs, available in live, online, or hybrid formats, are designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time candidates regardless of their geographical location, according to a statement released Friday by the institute.
Director Laxmidhar Behera emphasized IIT Mandi's dedication to advancing science and technology pertinent to the Indian knowledge system. He highlighted the significance of the MS and PhD programmes in exploring the scientific facets of Indian music and its therapeutic benefits for overall mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
The music and musopathy programmes focus on research, aiming to cultivate skilled professionals and researchers capable of contributing to the understanding and development of music's positive impacts on individuals and society. Collaborative efforts with figures such as Padma Vibhushan awardee Sonal Mansingh, percussion maestro Trichy Sankaran from York University, Canada, and eminent scientist Gautam Desiraju from IISc Bangalore have shaped these initiatives.
Chitravina N Ravikiran, in partnership with the music education portal www.acharyanet.com, has also contributed to designing elements of the programmes. This initiative underscores IIT Mandi's commitment to integrating traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern scientific research, aiming to enhance the field of musopathy and its applications in wellness and healthcare.
