NIIT Appoints Pankaj Jathar as New Chief Executive Officer
NIIT Limited has announced the appointment of Pankaj Jathar as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2024. Jathar succeeds Sapnesh Lalla, who will remain involved with NIIT Ltd as a non-executive director while continuing his role as CEO of NIIT Learning Systems (NIIT MTS).
Pankaj Jathar brings over 25 years of diverse experience in consumer-focused sectors, including e-commerce, startups, and direct-to-consumer (D2C) ventures. NIIT expects that his extensive background and strategic vision will strengthen the company’s position as a leading player in the industry, particularly through the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) to foster innovation and growth.
Rajendra S. Pawar, Chairman and Co-Founder of NIIT Limited, welcomed Jathar back to the organization. "We are excited to welcome Pankaj Jathar back to the NIIT family. His experience and knowledge of technology-driven industries make him the perfect leader for NIIT Ltd. With his leadership, we are committed to building talent for the nation and driving forward our vision of excellence at NIIT”, Pawar stated.
Jathar's career began as a Management Trainee at NIIT. He subsequently spent four years at Tata Interactive Systems in London before joining Accenture as a solution architect, where he developed IT solutions for the banking and finance sector for five years. His e-commerce journey includes being part of the launch team for Amazon India, managing the FMCG division at Cloudtail, and serving as CEO of Prione, Amazon's joint venture with Catamaran, in 2020. Over the past 13 years, he has gained invaluable insights into the rapid growth of e-commerce in India.
Expressing his enthusiasm about rejoining NIIT, Jathar said, “I am honored to come back to NIIT Ltd. and share its unwavering dedication in the field of education and technology. I look forward to working closely with the talented team at NIIT to build on our strengths, leverage emerging opportunities, and help to realize the true potential of our learners and partners”.
Jathar holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Pune University, a GNIIT certification from Pune, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, completed in 1998.
As Jathar steps into his new role, NIIT anticipates that his leadership will drive the company forward, particularly in leveraging technology and emerging trends to enhance educational offerings and foster sustained growth.
