 Droupadi Murmu Affirms India's Global Leadership and Humanitarian Role
President Droupadi Murmu proclaimed India as the foremost responder in global crises and a stalwart advocate for the Global South, emphasizing the country's human-centric approach during a speech in New Delhi. She highlighted India's proactive role in humanitarian efforts, citing its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and conflicts, underscoring how these actions have positioned India as a trusted global ally, or 'Vishwa-Bandhu'. Murmu noted India's impactful presence at international forums like the G-7 summit in Italy, where India's influence was palpable. She also credited India's G-20 presidency for facilitating the African Union's permanent membership, signaling increased solidarity with Africa and the Global South.
The President emphasized India's 'Neighbourhood First Policy' as pivotal in bolstering relations with neighboring nations, exemplified by the recent attendance of leaders from seven countries at the Union Council of Ministers' swearing-in ceremony. She highlighted India's commitment to enhancing connectivity, stressing initiatives like the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor, projected to be transformative in the 21st century. Murmu reaffirmed India's engagement with the Indo-Pacific region under the ethos of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (Collective Efforts, Inclusive Growth), underscoring India's strategic vision for regional cooperation and development.
In her address, President Murmu portrayed India as a proactive global player committed to fostering international cooperation, promoting inclusive growth, and championing the interests of the Global South on the world stage.
