Cisco Unveils Meraki India Region for Secure Networking and Data Localization
Cisco has announced the launch of Cisco Meraki India Region, a new cloud region designed to bolster India’s digital transformation efforts by offering advanced secure networking capabilities and ensuring local data storage compliance. This new initiative aligns with Cisco’s ongoing commitment to support India's digitization and is hosted on a cloud service provider approved by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
The Cisco Meraki platform, renowned globally and trusted by over 810,000 customers, simplifies cloud-managed IT with solutions that encompass networking, security, and IoT. By centralizing visibility and control, it facilitates unified management of wireless and wired networks while minimizing operational expenses. The new Meraki India Region aims to further enhance these benefits, specifically catering to India's burgeoning need for data localization and privacy.
“Launching the Meraki India Region is a critical step to ensuring customers can securely connect and scale their business with the simplicity they expect from Meraki”, stated Lawrence Huang, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Networking for Meraki and Wireless. He emphasized that this move helps customers meet local data storage requirements, bolstered by advanced security measures such as penetration testing and daily vulnerability scans. These features are crucial as India accelerates its journey toward comprehensive digital transformation.
The introduction of the Meraki India Region comes at a pivotal moment when the demand for data localization and stringent data privacy measures is intensifying. Insights from the Cisco 2024 Data Privacy Benchmark Study reveal that 97% of organizations in India perceive data to be safer when stored domestically, and 94% place higher trust in global providers to secure their data compared to local ones. This new region aims to address these concerns by providing tailored solutions for various sectors, including public sector entities, government bodies, educational institutions, financial services, healthcare, and professional services. These sectors often prioritize local data storage and will benefit from the advanced cloud capabilities offered by the Meraki India Region.
Daisy Chittilapilly, President of Cisco India & SAARC, commented, “As businesses continue to embrace a cloud-first environment, they are seeking a comprehensive networking platform that offers agility, flexibility, and secure access to drive operational efficiencies and succeed in an interconnected world. With the launch of the Meraki India Region, we aim to do just that”. Chittilapilly highlighted that the new region will equip Indian businesses with the necessary tools to thrive in a digital-first landscape, providing resilient and secure cloud infrastructure that fosters innovation and simplifies network operations.
Cisco’s Meraki solutions are designed to support the rapid digitalization efforts across India by enabling businesses to build scalable, easy-to-manage networks. These networks unify secure IT experiences, addressing the dynamic needs of customers as they navigate the complexities of modern digital environments.
As India continues its transformation into a digital-centric economy, Cisco’s Meraki India Region is poised to play a crucial role in supporting this growth. By providing a robust and secure platform, Cisco reaffirms its commitment to driving digital transformation at scale, aiming to power a connected and inclusive future for all. This initiative underscores Cisco’s dedication to offering flexible, secure, and efficient cloud solutions that align with the evolving demands of the Indian market.
