iStream Raises $5 Million in Series A Round of Funding

Bangalore: Bangalore-based Video aggregation firm, iStream, has raised $5 million series A investment from SAIF partners. The funds will be used to hire talent and scale up its technology. This is the first investment in the online stream for SAIF partners. iStream adds the entertainment and engagement off the television and movies in online. It is working on a device for Indian consumers to view different Indian languages, entertainment, movies and video, around the globe. The company is working on another device centric approach and plans to launch an advanced mobile application. iStream was co-founded in 2007 by Radhakrishnan Ramachandran and Chellappa Dhanukodi. Ramachandran, Co-Founder and CEO, iStream has spent some time as the Chief of Bureau of CNBC India and also worked for The Economic Times. He did his engineering degree from SJCE, Mysore and also has a Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication from Kerala University. SAIF partners is a long-term investor, which is located in Hong Kong, China, and India. It is a leading private equity firm that makes privately-negotiated equity, or equity-linked investments across consumer products and services, technology, media, telecom, financial services, healthcare, travel and tourism, and manufacturing. SAIF partners, currently manages over $3.5 billion. SAIF works closely with its portfolio companies to develop their businesses, which enhances the shareholder value by promotion of good corporate governance and best management practices.
