Why China Hates Indian Visits to Arunachal?

Bangalore: Strongly reacting to the Chinese objection to Defence Minister A K Antony’s recent Arunachal Pradesh visit, India reaffirmed the fact that the state is an integral part of the country and that any Indian has the right to visit any part of Indian territory. China has been very critical about Antony’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh for its statehood celebrations and Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei asked India to work with China to maintain peace and stability in border areas.

“I have the right and it's my duty to visit areas of our country. I have the privilege of visiting Arunachal Pradesh since 1984 and I am happy to see the progress of the state and Arunachal Pradesh is progressing well," said an otherwise soft-spoken minister.

China expressed its concerns over “Indian officials participating in activities organized by the so-called 'Arunachal Pradesh' region" which it claims to be its own. The official Xinhua news agency quoted the spokesman as seeking a fair and rational solution through equal and friendly negotiations in the border dispute.

"I was surprised to read the Chinese reaction. It is very sad and highly objectionable. Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India. As the Defense Minister of India it is my duty to ensure that all the borders of India are safe," Anthony said.

"India will not tolerate external interference of China into the Indian territorial affairs," said External Affairs Minister SM Krishna. "All seven states in North Eastern parts of India are part and parcel of India and China has no rights to make adverse remarks on Antony's visit to Arunachal Pradesh," he said.
