Bangalore: The rapid spread of social media has put many business organizations at risk. This was brought out by a "global survey on Media risks" conducted by Michigan-based Pone-mon Institute, a premier research center dedicated to privacy, data protection and information security policy, and the Nasdaq-listed Websense. There is a dangerous gap in corporate social media security, the research revealed. The survey interviewed 4,000 individuals in 12 countries out of which 63 percent said the social media in the workplace represents a serious security risk. Only 29 percent reported to have necessary security controls in place. More than 50 percent of respondents reported an increase in malware due to social media.
