TCS eyes over 1,000 SMB customers

NEW DELHI: Betting big on small and medium businesses in the country, leading software company TCS targets a four-fold jump in the number of such clients to 1,000 this fiscal. At present, the country's largest software exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has more than 240 customers in the small and medium business (SMB) segment across the country. "About 60 per cent of SMBs in India still do not have an ICT infrastructure in place. The SMB sector in India has a huge potential. And 'iON' as a solution is designed specifically to meet the needs of this segment," TCS Global Head (iON) Venguswamy Ramaswamy told reporters here. He added that the company is eyeing $1 billion in revenues from iON in the next five years. TCS today launched solutions for for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the National Capital Region. "We currently have over 240 customers for iON and we would like to increase it to over 1,000 this year," Ramaswamy said adding that TCS is targetting verticals like retail, textile, education, manufacturing, wellness and professional services. Ramaswamy said technology absorption by Indian SMEs is on the rise and the market is set to grow to $48.5 billion by 2015 from the present $11.9 billion. Asked if TCS would introduce the solutions to other markets as well, Ramaswamy said, "In FY'12, we will focus only on the Indian market, but we will take it to other countries. We don't have any names to share as of now." He added that emerging economies are "bright spots" since there are no competing products in these markets.
