Infosys Plans to Invest 800 Crore in Kerala

ALAPPUZHA: IT major Infosys plans to invest 800 crore in Kerala to expand operations and expects to generate 10,000 new jobs through this in the next five years, a top company official said. The company has two centres in Thiruvananthapuram and provides employment to 2,100 professionals, Infosys CEO S D Shibulal told reporters here. He said Infosys has set a target to to recuit 45,000 persons this year in the country and had already given jobs to 15,000. Shibulal said global recession had not seriously affected the company's operations. Business in the second quarter grew by 4.5 percent and Infosys acquired 45 new clients, he said. The company also entered into agreement with four major multinationls this year, he added. He said there was no threat to Indian IT sector from any other countries in the near future. English based education and a good foundation in science and mathamatics for students have helped India emerge as a major player in IT sector in the world, he said. Total IT business in Kerala was 3,200 crore and Infosys' share would come to around 608 crore, he said to a question. There was issue connected with labour in company's centres in the state, he added.
