India is the Most Expensive Place for iPhone4S

Bangalore: The iPhone 4S is set to go on sale in India within few days. After its official launch in India, telecom companies have officially announced that they will be launching the iPhone 4S in India. In addition to that they have also announced the price which is higher than the previous version of iPhone and much costlier than the other countries. The new iPhone 4S is available with both Aircel and Bharti Airtel. Airtel have priced the 16GB model at 44,550, 32GB model at 50,900 and the 64GB model price is not announced yet. While Aircel says all handsets are sold out and they have not mentioned the price. Some reports say Bharti Airtel did price the 64GB version at 57,500, but pulled it from the site later. The interesting thing is the previous version iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 are still available with much cheaper price in India. In fact, all Apple products are priced significantly higher in India than in the U.S., Singapore and Hong Kong. Indian customers will not benefit from getting somebody to buy the phone for them from the U.S. or Singapore. That is because, unlike the iPad and Apple's range of personal computers, the iPhone does not come with an international warranty. The warranty for iPhone 4S will be valid only in the country in which the phone is purchased. Unlike in the U.S., Europe and several Asian markets, operators in India never looked at the iPhone as a revenue spinner. Having the iPhone 4S on their networks is just a status symbol. Apple sold about 100,000 handsets in India between July-September and had a 3.6 percent market share in the smartphone segment. In fact, Apple ships fewer handsets to India, which has over 600 million active users and is the world's second largest mobile phone market, than even Norway, a country with one-third the population of the National Capital Region.
