New Delhi: Government is expected to take up a proposal by Defence Ministry to establish a mountaineering institute in Arunachal Pradesh to train the troops in mountain warfare and motivate the youth in North Eastern areas to join the armed forces. The proposal to set up North Eastern Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NEMAS) Institute in Arunachal Pradesh is expected to be discussed in Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) tomorrow, senior Army sources told PTI here. Besides training the army troops, the Institute will also be used to motivate youngsters in northeastern part of the country to take up a military career, they said. The one-and-a-half year old project has already been cleared by the Defence Ministry. As per the plans, the first batch of the project will be trained by officials of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) who will then be used to provide further training at the NEMAS, the officials said. Keeping in mind the training requirement of the army troops for high altitude and mountain warfare, Defence Ministry has proposed to set up the institute at Dirang in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
