Bob Iger, Disney CEO Joins Apple As A Director
Bangalore: Apple Inc has added Walt Disney Co Chief Executive Bob Iger as its Director. The appointment of Iger to the Board of Directors helps Apple to move deeper into the media business with its iTunes store selling music and videos directly to the consumers, reports Reuters. There was a strong relationship between Jobs and Iger after Disney bought Pixar Animation Studios for about $ 7.4 billion in 2006 which was earlier taken over by Jobs in the year 1986. Apple CEO Tim Cook told that he and Bob have known each other very well over the past few years and he thinks that Bob can make an extraordinary addition to the board which is already strong. Arthur Levinson will be appointed as the chairman, replacing Steve Jobs who died in the month of October after a year long struggle with cancer. Levinson had been working as a co-lead Apple Director since 2005 along with Avon Product Inc's Andrea Jung. Levinson is also the former CEO and Research scientist at Genentech and also serves as its chairman. Some analysts are of the opinion that Job's absence would trigger major changes for the board, inspiring them beyond being merely advisors to a visionary leader. They also told that the board must have to take more control and be less courteous to new CEO Tim Cook than it was to Jobs and they must make sure that they meet often.Apple has slid around four percent since the start of this month and its shares were broadly unchanged at $ 389.12 in after hours trading.
