BlackBerry Makes Up For Disruption With Free Apps

New Delhi: Blackberry's Canadian maker, Research in Motion (RIM), offered its 70 million customers applications worth over $100 as a gesture of appreciation for the "patience during the recent service disruptions". "A selection of premium apps worth a total value of more than $100 will be offered free of charge to subscribers as an expression of appreciation for their patience during the recent service disruptions," the company said in a statement. "The apps will be made available to customers over the coming weeks on BlackBerry App World and will continue to be available until Dec 31," it added. BlackBerry services had last week collapsed in Asia, Europe, Africa, and Middle East. RIM claimed early that it had fixed the problem and services had been restored. However, within a few hours the services collapsed again, causing hardships to the users. The services were restored only on Thursday in most parts of the world. "We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience. We have apologized to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. said Mike Lazaridis, co-chief executive officer RIM. "We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again," he added. RIM's enterprise customers will also be offered one month free technical support. BlackBerry has over one million customers in India.
