IRIS is a partnership between the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Intel and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) to foster research-based thinking in students. There were seven Indian-American students who won for their different projects at the ISEF 2010 and there was one Indian-American student by name Neel Sanjay Patel from Oviedo High School, Oviedo, Florida who won in the ISEF 2011 for his project on 'An Analysis of Listener Perception and Visual Replication of Sonifications: A Third Year Study'. P.K.Bansal, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, congratulated the young geniuses who have made their mark in science and innovation at IRIS 2011. He also told that, in today's global environment, it is essential to encourage original thought and enrich the quality of human capital to build a pipeline of talent in India and Events like IRIS help these bright young minds from across India get an opportunity to use their creativity to solve the problems faced by the nation today. Here is the list of 11 students who are representing India at Intel ISEF 2012: 1.Onkar Singh Gujral: This boy from La Martinere For Boys, Kolkata, West Bengal. He worked on a project for Computer Science category and the project was named as 'Detection Of Presence And Extent Of Malignant Tissues And Other Internal Abnormalities By Image Processing And Image Analysis' This is a unique image processing research based method to detect cancer of all types in the earliest stage, which has proved to be a big challenge . Here he has invented a learning algorithm, which is capable of learning like the human brain, similar to the case when a pathologist is asked to read a book and learn from the images in it and evaluate the presence and extent of cancer.
