About Dr Deepak Sharan
Dr. Deepak Sharan has over 18 years of experience in Orthopaedics, Ergonomics and Rehabilitation and has produced over 300 scientific publications or conference presentations.
Dr. Sharan is an internationally recognised expert in Ergonomics and Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (also called Repetitive Strain Injuries or RSI), having developed his own treatment approach called the SHARAN'S Protocol. He leads a team of over 70 medical professionals that has successfully treated over 50,000 clients with RSI, including several from USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Poland, Israel, China, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Singapore, UAE and Zimbabwe since 2001. His prospective study on prevalence and risk factors for RSI in 35,000 Indian Computer Users is the largest study on RSI in the world.
To quote the Wall Street Journal, dated November 10, 2006: “Dr. Sharan has emerged as something of a cult figure in the world of RSI. That patients from 14 countries have beaten a path to Dr. Sharan's door is a reflection of how far some people feel they need to go to get decent treatment for RSI.”
Dr. Sharan is the Medical Director of RECOUP Neuromusculoskeletal Rehabilitation Centre, which has 10 branches in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and New Delhi. RECOUP provides Ergonomics and RSI Consultancy to approximately 70 major companies in India, including Hewlett Packard, Oracle, Texas Instruments, Perot Systems, Wipro, Cisco, NDS, AMD, Monsanto, Sterling Commerce Solutions, McKinsey, British Gas, Cairns, Shell, Schneider, CSR, Bain, Titan, and Honeywell. Dr. Sharan was recently bestowed with the National Disability Award (Best Individual working towards the cause of Persons with Disabilities) for the year 2008 by the Govt. of India for developing a path breaking surgical procedure for Cerebral Palsy called SEMLARASS. Dr. Sharan is an advisor on Cerebral Palsy to the Govt. of India and on Disability Related Issues to the Govt. of Karnataka.
