Top 3 Things Companies should Know about our Students
Transparency and high ethical practices have been the key elements of our institutional success in each and every case including individuals, departments, processes, etc. Our aim is to provide a complete learning environment to our students. The three things that companies should know about our students are:
Besides Harvard/IIM case discussions and interactive lectures in the classroom, students get to learn and practice on a very wide range of application software, such as, SAS, SAP-ERP, Microsoft CRM Dynamics, Strategy using CAPSTONE, Sales & Distribution simulation s/w, etc. (the list is large) to prepare them well for the corporate jobs ahead. In addition, live projects are an integral part of a course, industry visits, rural visits, etc. are part of the curriculum.
FORE has a very strong and structured set of co-curricular activities designed to make our students more resilient and to strengthen their emotional quotient.
FORE inculcates a very strong sense of work culture and values in students.
Thought on a management student should also know to face in competitive corporate world
There are two issues that seem to have been asked. First one is how to prepare to get the job in a competitive environment. The second is how to organize oneself to outperform competition.
In order to prepare well for facing a job interview, a student should do enough homework to know as much about the company background as may be asked in an interview. In addition the subject matter knowledge and general disposition of the student must be pleasant and positive to be perceived by the interviewer as acceptable.
On the second issue, to be successful in a competitive world one must be quickly able to understand one’s situation, fathom the objectives or the target to meet, be able to work out alternatives available to meet those objectives and figure out the best way to implement her chosen path. All these must be thought of in a dynamic way and one should quickly redo the plan if the situation changes. Thus, ability to fathom a situation and a sharp eye to learn becomes the key to success. Certain hygiene factors, such as, pleasing personality, high moral and ethical conduct, etc., are to be seen as necessary but not sufficient condition to succeed.
Suggestions to improve the management education in India
Today organizations are demanding highly skilled MBA grads with a lot of analytical abilities. The onus is on the institutes to provide the right learning environment and ensure that the learning to students does happen. For this to really work out the faculty must be well qualified and they must have a conducive academic environment for themselves to adapt to the ever changing new business environment and then to impart the contemporary knowledge to students. The most crucial thing for a business school to do for this to happen is to allocate sumptuous funds for faculty development including availability of research fund, and most critically, to provided an empowered work environment wherein a faculty may do a host of things for self improvement with little hindrance.
Eminent personalities and senior corporate professionals are invited at FORE from time to time to share their experiences and discuss real world managerial practices and market opportunities with the students. We have Centers of Excellence to carry out contemporary research and contribute to the body of knowledge in the area. This will ensure dissemination of cutting edge input to the students. From the 2012 admission batch all our students will be put through a one-week academic rigor at one of the well known institute/university abroad to provide the much needed international orientation to our students.
Family Background
I am married with two children-one daughter and a son. My daughter is pursuing a law career and my son is an IT professional and is planning to join a MBA course in a couple of year’s time.
Future students & Hiring Companies
There is no doubt that the MBA Degree gives a lot of advantage. But one must not rush to do MBA just because others are doing. A prospective student should do a SWOT analysis for herself/himself and accordingly decide to pursue a management career now or a bit later. Before getting into the MBA (or PGDM) program one must ensure that the future is clearly visible considering the cost of an MBA program and the ensuing career post MBA.
