Bangalore: A lot of us thought that we were being smart when we set ‘password’ as our account password until a recent report by ZDNET concluded that it is the most used word for account security. Worried? Don’t be. Just run to your computer and change it as soon as you can. Unless you think password security is not important enough for you.

We would all agree that remembering our long list of login ID’s and passwords is a near impossible task. But that is no excuse to take security lightly. The recent incidents of six million LinkedIn and Last.fm passwords being stolen makes it clear that it is not a very tough task to crack user passwords. LinkedIn had to mail all the affected users requesting them to change their security passwords.

It has also come to notice that users with the most common (read lamest) passwords are the easiest to hack. Based on the list of the passwords hacked from LinkedIn, Mark Burnett an IT security consultant brings us a list of 500 most used passwords. Here are the top 25 of them.

The list has some really obvious words and the rest are all convenient ones. But one thing all users must remember is that no matter how difficult it is to remember passwords don’t ever go easy on security.
