Entrepreneurship Lessons from the Captain Cool- MS Dhoni

Bangalore: A T20 World Cup victory in 2007, the 2011 ICC World Cup win and several crucial international and county series, the list Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s accomplishments go on and on. But, when Dhoni was selected as the captain of the Indian team which had many experienced players like Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh, there was a huge stir of arguments whether the board’s choice was right or not.

Though criticized for lacking talent, par other international players and captain, Mahi has conquered the cricketing world with sheer entrepreneurial panache. His way with the players and managing every unit of the team with great passion has gotten him success that no Indian cricket captain had ever achieved. Times of India and Business Ideas say that the policies incurred by Dhoni in his captainship are as good as professional lessons for every entrepreneur.

Here is what every entrepreneur must learn from MSD.

1. Take measured risks

Dhoni’s decisions have often been questioned. But, most of the times all the fingers raised are lowered by his conviction and ability to stand firm on the decisions. "He's inclusive, but at the same time when the moment of truth comes, he doesn't hesitate to take decisions. A leader should maintain his calm. He should know his business well and take appropriate decisions in changing contexts," said Santrupt Misra, HR head of Aditya Birla Group.
