World's Most Extreme Ultra-Marathons

Bangalore: Ultramarathons are a sign that human beings are really built to go beyond. Travelling over 100 km in one day is not an easy task for a common man. Only the well-trained athletes can dare to race in these ultimate tests of endurance and stamina. Most of these races involve running, but some of these races include going up mountain trails, crossing streams and deserts. But the one thing that these ultra marathon running races have in common is that they are tough and CRAZY!

Western States Endurance Run

Western States Endurance Run, commonly known as the Western States 100. It is a 100 mile (161 km) ultramarathon that takes place on trails in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains annually on the weekend of June when the temperature is around 35 to 40 degree Celsius. The race starts at the Squaw Valley ski resort and ends at the Placer High School track in Auburn, California. In the first official Western States Endurance Run in 1977, sixteen runners were signed up and out of them only three could finish the race, while rest thirteen had dropped out.
