40 Pct Indians Don't Care For Eye Health

 Bangalore: Eyes, is considered as the most vital organ among human beings. So naturally, taking care of the precious organ should be the utmost priority of the humans. But seems that eye health is the least priority of the population. 40 Percent Indians don’t care for eye health.

According to the survey conducted by Bausch and Lomb, it was found that 70 percent of the people from around the world do not get their eyes checked because they feel that they do not have any symptoms. According to the survey “Global Eye Health”, a new survey, “One reason people around the do not get their eyes checked more often is that they can see things fine. Yet less than one third of the population take the basic measures to preserve eye sight.”

Bausch and Lomb surveyed about 11,000 consumers across Brazil, Russia, Germany, France, China, Italy and the U.S. These surveys are done to make aware the consumers regarding their attitude towards eye care. “Getting regular examination not only helps preserve one’s vision but can also detect other serious diseases,” said Cal Roberts, Bausch and Lomb’s chief medical officer.

Lack of awareness might be the major reason for the people to get a regular eye check up. Through this survey, Bausch and Lomb hopes to educate its consumers around the world about the importance of seeing an eye doctor on a regular basis to avoid serious eye diseases such as cataracts and other diseases causing damage to eye.

Some of the key results from the survey showed that 68 percent of those surveyed say that they have knowledge about eye health and only 21 percent go for regular eye check up every 5 years. It was also noted that married people are more likely to go for a regular eye exam than the singles.(46 percent married vs 38 percent single).

Women were seen to be more conscious in taking necessary steps to protect their vision by wearing sunglasses(81 percent) as compared to 77 percent in men; having a healthy diet(82 percent in women) and 75 percent in men.

97 percent of the doctors globally believe that consumers do not have enough eye health knowledge and 94 percent of eye health professionals said that women took better care of their eyes than men.
