10 Most Expensive Auction Items

Bangalore:  Antiques are collected for various reasons including their age, beauty, rarity, condition, utility, personal emotional connection, and/or other unique features. But people in their thirst to posses one such item, sometimes go overboard. Here is a list of some of the most expensive items ever auctioned.

Nude, Green Leaves and Bust (Pablo Picasso)

This 1932 masterpiece was created by Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.  The painting was in the possession of Los Angeles art collectors Sydney and Frances Brody for almost 60 years before being sold at an astronomical price of 106.5 million USD! It is currently displayed in Tate Britain, London, alongside some of Picasso’s other paintings. The art depicts Picasso’s French mistress Marie-Therese Walter in a reclining position, while her famous bust sculpture, crafted by Picasso himself is seen on a pedestal. It is believed that the painting was created when he was at the peak of his career. The painting broke the record price for an artwork sold at an auction until it was surpassed by “The Scream” which fetched 120 million USD!
