RIL Shares Tank Nearly 5 Percent, Drag Sensex



Mumbai: Shares of the country's most valued firm, Reliance Industries, tumbled nearly 5 percent, becoming a major drag on the BSE index Sensex, which slipped 478 points on rising curde oil prices and weak global markets. RIL, top heavyweight on the index with 9.74 percent weightage, closed at 781.20, down 4.77 percent on the BSE. As per the BSE data, RIL contributed over 85 points to the overall fall in the Sensex. It was the single largest contributor to the fall of 477.82 points at 17,445.75. At the NSE also, the bellwether stock ended 3.22 percent lower at 793.55. The shares had opened on a bullish note this morning but lost ground as the trading session progressed. More than 9 lakh shares of the company changed hands on the BSE, while over 60 lakh shares got traded on the NSE.
