How a Plunging Rupee Hits You

Bangalore: So far we all discussed about how rupee’s fall affected the exporters and importers the most. But now it’s time for the consumers to feel the burn of it. The Economic Times has come up with a report which says that the fall in rupee will prompt the manufacturers of electronic devices to like digital cameras, personal computers and television to hike the prices from next month.

Imported inputs are used by many consumer durable manufacturers. As the rupee fell, the price of these imports rise. Therefore this rise in cost will be passed on from the manufacturers to the consumers either in part or full.

Companies like Samsung, Akai, Panasonic, Canon, Dell and Acer stated that they are looking up to an increase of up to 6 percent across products as most of them have factored in imports at 51 against the greenback. Other device maker like, mobile phone manufacturers Blackberry and Nokia are closely watching the whole situation to calculate whether the hike in price is warranted.

Though rupee gained as much as 9 percent against dollar in first two momths of 2012, the rupee is went back to its negative state and close to its record low of 54.30 against dollar as in December.
