Microsoft Mouse Turns 30: Rally with New Interface

Bangalore: If computing devices doesn’t have a touchscreen then it’s not new and trendy, touchscreens have become one of the essential technologies in all the new gadgets whether it’s a smartphone, tablet or now a PC. Microsoft’s new Window 8 is going to bring the touch, tab and swipe experience to your very old PCs; this is supposed to erase the existence of all the mice which we use now. It feels like this new Operating System of Microsoft is killing its own baby, its 30 year old Microsoft mouse.

Microsoft mouse is not dead till now, but it will face its biggest defy from its maker itself in the form of Window 8. But according to Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows Division at Microsoft “users will switch back to the mouse and physical keyboard when necessary, but Microsoft obviously recognizes, and will begin to promote, the finger-driven interface that is Metro”. He adds, “Oh, I'm never going to sit here and hold my arm straight out,” But people will adjust. "So when you see a touchscreen PC like this doesn’t think of it fitting into the world you have now."

Even though efficient touchscreen devices like iPad, iPhone, Motorola Xyboard tablets are becoming more involved in our life, but the mouse will never fade away, its expertise in precision is still vital for many tasks.

But the major raising concern here is, is this progress in the name of Metro by Microsoft with all those ‘touch concept’ necessary for common people? Or is it just a new standard which is going to be imposed on innocent customers?
