Doro Unveiled Android Smartphone for Elderly


Bangalore: Your grand mom can follow your tweets without any hassles now. Similarly, your old uncle can reply to your mails on time. Doro a Swedish company recently launched an android smartphone designed especially for senior citizens. The PhoneEasy 740 is a one of its kind device in the market.

The phone will run on a thinned down version of Froyo and will have big keys and a simple User Interface. Armed with special features such a remarkably powerful speaker, 3G network, 5 MP camera, an app that can turn the camera into a magnifying glass, HD voice, etc PhoneEasy 740 is all set to take the market by a storm.

The phone’s start screen will have only four icons Contact, Calls, Email and Messages. The Doro app store, Doro Selection will have 15 well selected apps including news, banking, and transportation-related apps. Doro has also released a software that can simplify the android interface. The Doro interface will have big bold and clear icons which will be easier to use for the older people.

One path breaking inclusion in the PhoneEasy 740 is a remote management which allows another person in the remote management of the phone through a PC that let relatives set up and monitor the device from anywhere; they can remotely add and remove apps and can set up accounts. This is especially useful as most elderly people do not get to use most feature of the handset as they find it difficult to setup.

The PhoneEasy 740 is not yet available in India but the good news is that the software that simplifies the android interface can be downloaded by anybody. Let us hope other mobile makers are listening and they soon come up with devices designed especially for our elderly and give some varieties to pick-up for our grandparents.
