Most Influential Women in Finance


Bangalore: Women of today have not left any area unearthed. Every industry today has women ruling the roost. Financial sector is one such industry which has seen numerous women actively participate and make hunumgous changes for  financial institutions. Some of their business startergies are so strong that it has influnenced other financial institutions to adopt and follow in their foot prints. They say 'Money World is a Man's World' but today, it is a Women's ball game. Here are some of those Indian Women who have given a face lift to the Banking Industry of our country.

Chanda Kochhar: Chanda Kochhar is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank. She received Wockhardt Gold Medal for Excellence in MBA and J. N. Bose Gold Medal in Cost Accountancy for highest marks.

She joined ICICI as a Management Trainee in 1984. K. V. Kamath took her campus interview and Kochhar says she remembers every single question Kamath asked, as told to Business Today. In 1993, Kochhar became the part of ICICI Bank as a part of the core team to set the bank. Gradually she upgraded from Assistant General Manager to Executive Director in 2001, Chief Financial Officer, Joint Managing Director (JMD) and the official spokesperson in 2007-2009. Kochhar succeeds K. V. Kamath, who was the MD since 1996, and became the MD and CEO in 2009.

Kochhar received the "Global Leadership Award", from the US-India Business Council. She is the first woman to be named as the “Business Leader of the Year” by Economic Times. She has also won the Teachers Achievement Award in the business category and ranked 17th among the "25 Most Powerful CEOs" in Asia, 5th in the International list of "50 Most Powerful Women In Business", by Fortune, (she was ranked 10th in 2010), 10th in the Fortune's List of "Most Powerful Women in Business".
